During his three decades in the biotechnology industry, Dr. Recny has participated in, and led teams involved many aspects of drug research, development, commercialization and equity capital formation that have given him the wide-ranging expertise needed to drive organizations to reach their maximum potential.

Dr. Recny currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Calvert Holdings, where he is applies his talents to motivate all of the Calvert companies to optimize the success of Calvert’s partners and customers. His philosophy is simple – understand your partner’s needs, and then create and implement innovative solutions to help them achieve their goals. Prior to his current role, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer for Calvert Holdings where he focused on identifying business opportunities and sourcing capital to fund new business ventures.

Before joining Calvert in 2007, Dr. Recny served in various senior leadership roles at Trimeris, Inc., Procept, Inc., and Genetics Institute, Inc. (now a division of Pfizer). During his career, he has made important contributions to the discovery, development or commercialization of three FDA approved drugs that have collectively sold billions worldwide, and to four other drug candidates that entered human clinical trials. He was a Joseph C. Wilson Scholar at the University of Rochester where earned his bachelor’s degree, he was awarded his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and he conducted his post-doctoral work through joint academic appointments at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston MA and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Recny also serves as an advisor to many early-stage health care and technology companies in the RTP area of North Carolina. He is an active angel investor, lectures at various academic institutions, and joins his wife in serving local civic and religious organizations. Growing up in the Northeast, he remains a diehard Red Sox fan and a lifelong hockey aficionado from his childhood days skating on the frozen ponds around his hometown of Syracuse, NY.
